Problem

The connection to the server 127.0.0.1:40143 was refused - did you specify the right host or port?

Solution

  1. Check if the KinD Cluster is running:
sh
# List all running KinD clusters
kind get clusters

# Check if docker containers are running
docker ps | grep kind
  1. Fix the kubelet context:
sh
# List all available contexts
kubectl config get-contexts

# Switch to the correct KinD context
kubectl config use-context kind-dev-cluster  # or whatever your cluster is named
  1. Regenerate the kubeconfig file:
sh
# If the cluster is running but config is corrupted:
kind get kubeconfig --name dev-cluster > kind-config
export KUBECONFIG=$PWD/kind-config

# Or set it properly from the existing KinD cluster
kind export kubeconfig --name dev-cluster
  1. Restart the KinD cluster, if needed:

# Recreate your cluster (note: this will delete all resources)
kind delete cluster --name dev-cluster

  1. Verify the Correct Cluster Name The most common cause is using an incorrect cluster name. Double-check your cluster name:

If you have multiple clusters, ensure you're using the correct one. The default name is usually kind, but if you've created a cluster with a different name, use that.

For example, if your cluster is named dev-cluster, use:

# List all running KinD clusters to confirm the exact name
kind get clusters

Make sure you're using the exact name in your commands:

# If your cluster is named "kind" (the default) and not "dev-cluster"
kind get kubeconfig --name kind > kind-config
  1. Check if the Control Plane Container is Running If you don't see your control plane container running, it means your KinD cluster isn't active.

  1. Start/Recreate the Cluster if Needed
